NFU Cymru has welcomed the support. President Dai Davies said: “I welcome the recognition by the vast majority of Assembly members that the eradication strategy has to be based and driven forward on the basis of an integrated and holistic approach. Despite the inevitable emotion on all sides of the argument there is clear and incontrovertible scientific evidence and practical experience in other countries to show that the problem has to be dealt with in the round. I am pleased that this has now been accepted by the majority of AMs.

Mr Davies continued: “Today is the first of day of Wales’ strategy to rid itself of this dreadful disease in cattle and badgers. There will be a careful and considered approach and no-one should be under any illusion that this will be anything other than a long and arduous journey with painful and unpalatable decisions to be taken by all the parties involved on the way.

“The end gain, however, of a healthy and robust cattle and badger population has to be worth the sacrifice that farmers and wildlife interests will have to make to achieve the ultimate objectives of cattle and badger populations free of TB. NFU Cymru is ready to play its part in the agreed strategy. I hope others will play theirs too.”
