Under a program on the issue submitted to the government by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 108 billion VND (about 6.8 million dollars) from the state budget will be used to assist farmers in the northern region hard hit by the spell.

Other sums of money will be spent on animal feed and veterinary medicine assistance.

Up to 107,533 cattle in Vietnam's northern localities died in the cold spell from mid-January to late February, causing a loss of 380 billion VND (some 23.8 million dollars), according to the ministry.
