The Green Generation: Fact of Fiction

US - Sustainability, custodians of the environment and the efficient production of food have been the by-words of modern agriculture since the first Green Revolution tried to find ways to feed the world's poor.

According to a press release from Alltech, The success of this system may be seen by the constant improvements in productivity that we have seen in poultry, pig, ruminant and aquaculture nutrition over the past 50 years. Even in the past five years all areas of agriculture have seen annual costs of production drop by two to three percent.

We are in the grip of a new green revolution - this is a revolution driven in part by concerns over biofuel production and the spiralling cost of feed and food. The nutrition industry has a role to play. It is Alltech’s hope that, just as those who came of age in the 1940s are remembered as the 'Greatest Generation,' our industry’s deciders and influencers will make their mark in the wider world as members of the 'Greenest Generation.'

Alltech's 24th International Animal Health and Nutrition Symposium will be inciting delegates – including experts from around the globe – to redefine the industry as a leader of the Greenest Generation by rethinking technology and business practices.

The Symposium will also urge delegates to find constructive ways in which we, the agriculture industry, can respond to the green revolution, and ask the following questions:

  • Can we feed the 1 billion people on this planet who still don’t have enough to eat?
  • How does modern agriculture compare to 'organic' production in terms of carbon footprint, environmental pollution and greenhouse gases?
  • Can we continue to produce food less expensively while feed costs have risen by 50 percent?
  • What about safe food – can Salmonella, E.Coli and Campylocbacter be contained?
  • Animal Welfare – how can we best respond to consumer concerns?

Alltech’s Symposium is an exciting time to share knowledge and gain new insights into our industry. It’s an incredible opportunity too for individuals throughout agribusiness to come together and discuss pertinent issues such as traceability, supply variability and constraint, and using new technologies to reduce the impact of agriculture on the environment.

Alltech’s Symposium will be held April 20-23, 2008 in Lexington, Kentucky. Attendance is strictly by invitation only.
