Badger Cull Step Nearer in Fight Against TB

UK - A cull of badgers as part of a £27m drive over the next three years to eradicate bovine TB in Wales has come nearer with the report of a National Assembly inquiry into the disease.

But Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones refused to reveal whether she would act on a recommendation from the rural development sub-committee for a trial cull in a clearly defined pilot area.

“I have read the report and it has very clear recommendations,” said the minister.

“I am considering those along with the scientific reports in the public domain and looking at the experiences of other countries.

“We have £27m set aside for the next three years to create a programme to eradicate TB.

“It’s high on my agenda and it’s a commitment of the One Wales Government to move forward on this.”
