AUSTRALIA - Cattle market analyst Stan Wallace says beef producers are starting the year with optimism and renewed confidence in their industry.

Mr Wallace says while prime cattle prices will be heavily dependent on the exchange rate, the store market is looking extremely positive.

He says many producers sold off females during the drought and demand for restocking should help drive prices higher.

"When you drive around and see paddocks with plenty of grass and in a lot of cases depleted herds, it certainly must provide a buzz for the store market, particularly for breeders," he said.
