The cooperative giant is claiming that it is the highest milk procurement achieved by any dairy network in India. In last week of November, ET had reported that GCMMF affiliated dairies would collectively achieve the 100-lakh mark by this calendar year-end.

Over six-decade old dairy cooperatives affiliated to GCMMF doubled the peak milk procurement in less than a decade. The cooperative dairy network of Gujarat procured 51.88 kg in a day peak during 1998-99.

Sources said with this achievement, the federation has revised its target to 120 lakh kg milk procurement by 2009-10 from 105 lakh litre originally. In fiscal 2001-02 peak procurement by GCMMF network stood at 67.52 lakh kg in a day, which rose to 84.09 lakh kg in 2006-07.

GCMMF managing director BM Vyas told ET that the milk procurement by dairy cooperatives in Gujarat is expected to continue to rise on the same line in normal circumstances. He added that GCMMF has revised its procurement targets since it achieved the 100-lakh mark earlier than its own projections.

Commenting on the milk marketing, GCMMF chief general manager RS Sodhi said: “We are now present in all the majority milk markets of the country and receiving good response. Our next target is to penetrate better in the liquid milk markets out of Gujarat where we have made inroads in last couple of years.”
