Nebraska Beef Heads to Japan

NEBRASKA - As one of the nation's top beef-producing states, Nebraska paid a dear price when Japan banned American beef imports in 2003 amid fears of mad cow disease (news) . But now that Japan relaxed the ban earlier this week, Nebraska beef will be among the first shipments to reach the Asian country, which used to be America's biggest beef export market.Gov. Dave Heineman on Wednesday helped Greater Omaha Packing Co. chief executive Henry Davis load the last two cases of beef for a shipment heading to Japan.
