Montana Cattle Group Pushing Brucellosis Plan
US - Members of the Montana Cattlemen's Association have passed an interim policy to help protect local ranchers in case another outbreak of brucellosis occurs in Montana. The policy supports a "split state status" which would protect Montana Ranchers from losing their Brucellosis-free status. If brucellosis is detected again within two years then the entire state would be downgraded to "Brucellosis Class-A" status.
If the Montana Cattlemen's Association policy gains the support of state leaders and becomes binding then President Brett DeBruycker says it'll help protect ranchers from dealing with the burden of brucellosis testing, especially if they are not at risk.
We're confident that the governor and the Montana representatives and senators, Montana representatives and senators have the best interests in Montana and MCA is confident that they'll do what's right for the industry."
Public meetings on the issue are set up across the state from October 15th until October 18th. A meeting is set for October 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the Eagles Lodge in Miles City, another is set for October 17th at Lopine Hall in Lopine at 6:00 p.m., and the final one is set for Lewistown's Yogo Inn on October 18th at 7:30 p.m.
