UK - Chicago Mercantile Exchange live cattle gained Wednesdayamid bullish cash expectations fueled by accelerated pre-Labor Day wholesalebeef demand. Feeder cattle closed firm.

Live cattle's uptick after the opening bell was owed to Chicago Board ofTrade corn's overnight weakness, boxed beef strength and longs' migration intoOctober ahead of the Goldman roll period.

The roll, which is done in association with the Goldman Sachs CommodityIndex, will officially begin on Sept. 10 and conclude on Sept. 14.

Cattle futures gained further ground on covering by short-position holdersbefore the weekend and prior to the end of the month. Also, CBOT feedgrain'sfade and midday boxed beef climb emboldened cattle contract buyers.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wednesday afternoon beef wire showedchoice cuts up $0.34 per hundredweight and select gained $0.78.

Cattle market participants on Thursday will be a day closer to spot-August'sboard expiration Aug. 31. Thursday may also usher in increased pre-holiday andmonth's-end positioning.
