US Cattle On Feed Reach Near Record Level For 1 May
AUSTRALIA - On 1 May 2007, the number of cattle on feed in US feedlots (with a capacity over 1,000 head) reached 11.3 million head – the second highest 1 May inventory since the series commenced in 1996. Numbers on feed were 2% below last year’s record but were 6% higher than May 2005.Placements during April fell 3% to 1.57 million head due to continuing uncertainties in the feed market and higher than expected placements in February and March.
Fed cattle marketings during April were 2% higher than a year ago, reaching 1.82 million head.
All results were very close to the pre-report analyst estimates. Therefore, analysts expect the report to have a neutral impact on the futures market.
