Hungry Market For Hungary's Cattle

HUNGARY - The agricultural producer prices rose by 11.6% year on year in February, falling from a growth of 14.3% in January, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) has reported on Thursday. The KSH detected a 13.1% increase in the January-February period.

The producer price of slaughter pigs dropped further by 9.3% after a 6.7% fall in Jan. The producer price of poultry for slaughter increased by 9.5% in Feb and 9.7% in Jan-Feb. The producer price of cattle for slaughter edged up by 1.2% in Feb (vs. +2.3% in Jan) and was up 2.2% in Jan-Feb.

The producer price of milk rose 4.9% yr/yr in Feb vs. 3.5% in Jan and was up 4.1% in Jan-Feb. The producer price of eggs jumped 19.4% yr/yr in Feb (same as Jan) and 19.5% in the first two months.

Excluding fruits and vegetables, agricultural producer prices were up by 12.9% in February vs. 13.5% in January. The Jan-Feb growth was 13.3%

Crop price inflation came in at 21.2% yr/yr in February and 23.5% in Jan-Feb, while there was a respective 1.6% and 0.9% drop at live animals.

The price level of cereals (including seeds) leaped by 35% yr/yr in Feb vs. 41.3% in Jan and went up 39.8% in Jan-Feb.

The producer price of industrial crops rose 2.5% yr/yr against a 4.7% decline in the previous month. In the first two months of the year, there was a 6.3% fall here.
