Queensland-based Bio Cane uses local technology to produce the fodder - known as CowCandy - made entirely from sugar cane using a steam-drying, no-waste system.

The Maroochy Shire Council today also delivered a $125,000 grant to the company, on top of $250,000 already given, and Mayor Joe Natoli said he was happy with the company's progress.

The treats are made from cane that is dried and bundled, and eaten by dairy and beef cattle. It contains a high level of water soluble carbohydrates that gives the animals extra energy.

The product also improves milk quality, is easily digested by the animals and has a "pleasant aroma" that attracts cows, the CowCandy website said.
