Japanese cattle slaughter falls slightly
JAPAN - Japanese cattle slaughter during 2006 was estimated at 1.216 million head, 1% down from the previous year (figures sourced from the Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries).Nevertheless, the Japanese trade press Shokuniku Sokuho has forecasted a positive turn in 2007, as more companies have been rebuilding cattle herds to meet demand. The main increase is expected in Wagyu and Wagyu cross cattle.
