In seeking to achieve these worthwhile ends it relies on the wider support of its industry partners, including both farming unions, and all parts of the supply chain.

It is only since the creation of HCC nearly four years ago that Wales has been able to market and promote its products in the global marketplace and to direct support into the drive for competitiveness from within Wales.

It is a brief that covers everything from marketing and development activity with producers, abattoirs, suppliers and retailers to taking Welsh products to international events, working with political institutions and advertising.

That is why the chairman of HCC highlighted how the red meat organisation, alongside the producers in Wales, had made giant strides in the past two years. Wales' first ever widespread TV advertising and consistent product quality were behind a quantitative leap in consumer confidence that saw a rise in lamb sales of 17% in the past 12 months and 40% in the past two years.
