Rule 2 will allow live cattle from Canada into the US born after March 1, 1999. But Brad Wildeman says only about 20-25 percent of the older cow herd may be able to be exported.

He says the purebred and dairy genetics industries know the birthdates of their animals. But he points out most rank and file cow-calf producers either don't know their animals birth dates or couldn't prove those dates.

The C-C-A will be adding this to their official comment which will be submitted to the US Department of Agriculture.
