Ban on poultry litter in feed could drive up cattle costs
A federal ban on poultry litter in cattle feed as a safety measure against mad cow disease could send more of the waste into Alabama fields as fertilizer and also drive up livestock costs, agriculture officials said.The litter includes bedding, spilled feed, feathers and fecal matter collected from poultry houses in the state's largest agriculture industry, which has a billion broilers a year producing tons of litter.
