Senators support beef ban

Citing concerns over mad cow disease, U.S. Sens. Craig Thomas and Mike Enzi have asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture to extend a ban on imports of Canadian cattle and beef products.
Thomas and Enzi, both R-Wyo., sent a letter to USDA Secretary Ann Veneman last week, saying lifting the ban would hurt the U.S. cattle industry. The senators said American cattle producers have been subject to higher costs because of new testing measures implemented in the United States but not in Canada.
