Hard times for beef producers
AUSTRALIA - The latest report into the beef industry has found the farmers' incomes dropped during a difficult year in parts of Australia.However, it says farmers are building herd numbers to take advantage of good prices and some areas have fared better than others.
ABARE says while northern producers bought more stock and have maintained profits, the southern states suffered through the drought.
Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) spokesman Peter Weekes says the bottom line is bleak for most producers.
