Fair trade in beef

CANADA - It was encouraging to learn on Sunday that the Americans have agreed to reopen their border to all shipments of Canadian beef from cattle under 30 months of age. Most meat exports -- about $1.3-billion worth annually -- had resumed last September. The removal of this final impediment to beef from animals too young to have contracted BSE should provide an additional injection of about $170-million per year into Canada's hard-pressed beef industry.
