Transatlantic Trade Deal Must Be Backed by Agriculture19 June 2014
EU–US – Strong commitment from within agriculture is required if a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is to be reached, negotiators have heard this week.
US agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack headed to Brussels this week to discuss the trade deal a year after talks first commenced.
Dismissing the current agreement in place between the US and Canada as unacceptable, he insisted that a ‘common ground’ must be found that does not limit the market for US cheese exporters.
He placed particular emphasis on Geographical Indication.
