FMD Breaks Out in East Kazakhstan

KAZAKHSTAN - An outbreak of foot and mouth disease taking a toll on cattle and sheep has occurred in East Kazakhstan.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 1 on 4 June 2012.

Out of 250 susceptible cattle, 34 cases were identified. No deaths were reported. 136 animals were destroyed.

Since no vaccination was applied before, it has been decided to carry out two rounds of vaccination at 10-20 day interval.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
