Number Of Cattle Culled For bTB Falls
UK - Current estimates on the number of new incidences of bovine tuverculosis (bTB) have fallen 8.2 per cent compared to the same time last year.
However, the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) officials warned that the statistics were provisional and only a snapshot of the position on the date on which they were extracted.
They also warned that the April 2010 data contained many unclassified incidents.
DEFRA has predicted that with this 8.2 per cent drop in new TB incidents, on top of an increase in number of herds tested over the same period, that there has been a provisional overall decrease in the TB incidence rate of 14 per cent.
The provisional average confirmed incidence rate (confirmed new TB incidents, as a proportion of tests on unrestricted herds) was 3.7 per cent for January - April 2010, compared to 4.1 per cent for the same period in 2009.
