Russia to Increase Beef Production
RUSSIA - Russia will continue to reduce beef imports and increase its own beef production by four times.First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Viktor Zubkov said the plan is to increase production up to 282,400 tonnes per year by 2012 compared to present 62,000 tonnes reports Meat International.
Mr Zubkov has criticised the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia for the delay in the implementation of sectoral programmes of beef cattle development. He also added that the government currently is developing a set of measures in order to increase beef production in the coming years.
According to estimates, the total amount of investments in the Russian cattle breeding industry this year will exceed 4.5 billion rubles (90 million Euro), including three billion in co-financing of regional development programmes for beef production.
