1st regional conference of the Society for Tropical Veterinary Medicine (STVM).
These dates have been confirmed by the organisers.
The conference will have a technical component and a pledging component. Experts will present an analysis of the global FMD situation, the socio-economic impact of the disease, the progress achieved with existing regional FMD control initiatives and ‘state of the art’ overviews regarding vaccines, diagnostic
methods and current research.
This will be followed by presentation of the Global FMD Control Strategy, the tools and methods it will employ and the gaps and needs that should be addressed to achieve sustainable progress. The budget required to implement the strategy during the first five years will also be presented. Donors and representatives of FMD-free and FMD-affected countries and regions will have an opportunity to present their views.
The conference is expected to attract over 400 participants, including Chief Veterinary Officers and Directors of Animal Production, representatives of regional organisations, donor agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and industry and agricultural producer organisations. Ministers and other decision-makers will also be invited, in particular for the pledging component of the Conference.

During this conference, the organisers say that delegates will cross the borders to other scientific disciplines, focussing on the bridges that connect them with veterinary epidemiology and economics to create the multi disciplinary approach needed to solve many of today's research questions.

Speakers from throughout North America bring the latest concepts in livestock feeding to the upper Midwest. Conference highlights include University of Minnesota Research Updates, and sessions on Ruminant and Non-ruminant nutrition as well as a session on Equine nutrition.

Antibiotics are essential tools for animal and human health and concerns over antibiotic resistance and their prudent use in animals have garnered global interest. Yet insufficient attention has been given to the scientific breakthroughs and novel technologies that provide alternatives to antibiotics.
The objectives of this symposium, subtitled ‘Challenges and Solutions in Animal Production’, are to highlight promising research results and novel technologies that provide alternatives to antibiotics, assess challenges associated with their commercialisation and use, and provide actionable strategies to support their development.

This course provides participants with an overview of basic dairy technology and the manufacture of cultured dairy products, including buttermilk, sour cream, cottage cheese, yogurt, and cream cheese. Lectures and laboratory exercises address milk composition and coagulation, metabolic and technological aspects of starter cultures, and flavoring systems for cultured dairy products.
