Cattle trade finds a balance for now
Signs of stability which have become evident in the cattle trade since the end of January were once again confirmed for the week ended February 13.
Overall, prime cattle prices barely changed, achieving a price of 329.0p/kg. Steer prices remained relatively unchanged at 330.4p/kg, while heifers lost almost 2p during the week, declining to approximately 330.6p/kg. Similarly, in the Republic of Ireland the trade continues to be dominated by stability which has been present for much of the winter. There though, unlike the GB market, heifers are continuing to demand a premium of 10-15 cents per kilo over their steer counterparts.
