No Pathogens Found in FMD Run-Off

22 February 2011

SOUTH KOREA - No harmful bacteria have been found in the run-offs related to foot and mouth disease (FMD), says the government.

No harmful bacteria has been found in run-offs from burial sites of animals destroyed to stem the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in South Korea, a state quarantine office said yesterday (21 February), according to Yonhap.

In an intermediate report, the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service (NVRQS) said there were no signs of FMD or anthrax bacteria from runoff it collected in 15 sites across the country in recent weeks.
