The industry members will work with scientific experts to ensure that project outputs deliver what the industry needs.

The Feed into Beef project, which is being managed by the Centre for Innovation Excellence in Livestock (CIEL), will produce new feeding standards for modern beef cattle. The new standards will be customised for different breeds or classes of stock and will better predict animal performance.

Beef scientists and nutritionists at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) will input into the five-year project, using the best information available from around the world to help drive precision nutrition and increase the efficiency of beef production.

A meeting will take place in Birmingham on Wednesday, 14 November, to give industry representatives the opportunity to find out more about plans for the project and the benefits of participation. This will include early access to the revised equations and data generated before it is released more widely to industry.

Dr Mary Vickers, AHDB Senior Scientist, said: "The Feed into Beef project has the potential to deliver significant benefits to the industry, including improving production efficiency while reducing feed cost and environmental impact.

"I would urge anyone with an interest in beef cattle nutrition and performance to take the opportunity to get involved and shape the outcomes of this project."
