NETHERLANDS - FrieslandCampina implemented a temporary standstill on 9 January 2017. This measure was taken in the run-up to the phosphate reduction plan aimed at preventing milk supply from increasing in relation to the year 2016.
The temporary measure has resulted in a stabilisation of total milk supply by member dairy farmers in January 2017 with respect to December 2016.
The temporary FrieslandCampina standstill measure will terminate on 1 March 2017.
Ministerial decree concerning phosphate reduction plan in force from 1 March
On 17 February 2017, the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced the Phosphate Reduction Plan Decree 2017, which will come into force on 1 March 2017.
This ministerial decree is part of the 2017 phosphate reduction package of measures.
It is expected that the coming into force as a result of this package of measures will reduce milk production and thereby, re-balance milk supply and availability of owned and hired processing capacity.
