ABP Welcomes AgriRecovery Announcement

CANADA - Last week, the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta announced that producers impacted by the ongoing bovine tuberculosis investigation and facing "extraordinary costs" will be eligible for financial support through the AgriRecovery Framework. A statement put out by the government outlined the costs related to quarantine that will be included.

Alberta Beef Producers (ABP) has worked closely with both federal and provincial governments, formally requesting the approval of AgriRecovery funding for the ranchers affected by the investigation. We look forward to our continued work to ensure producers’ access to funding is provided as quickly and efficiently as possible.

The statement continued to say, "Feeding and water infrastructure, feed for the animals, transportation, cleaning and disinfection, and interest costs on loans due to circumstances," would be covered under the framework.

Both Ministers MacAulay and Carlier expressed understanding of the complexity of the bovine tuberculosis situation, and the need for government and industry to work together to ensure programme details reflect the needs of producers.

"We welcome the announcement of financial support for the producers facing this devastating situation. The investigation is taking an enormous physical, emotional, and financial toll on these producers and we greatly appreciate the federal and provincial governments taking these steps to ease their financial burden," said Rich Smith, ABP Executive Director.

Producers can continue to access immediate support through the Advance Payments Programme (APP) until specifics are finalized in the coming days. Under APP, producers are eligible for advances up to C$400,000, without interest on the first C$100,000.
