Farmer Beef and Sheep Levy Board Get 84 Per Cent Support
NEW ZEALAND – New Zealand graziers have emphatically shown their support for the country’s red meat levy board.

In a study representing 38 per cent of members, – 6,448 participants – the Beef and Lamb New Zealand result offered a “strong mandate” to work on behalf of the producers.
The levy board added that, since 2009, it had become more “farmer facing”, partnering with like-minded organisations.
Beef and Lamb New Zealand chairman, John Parsons, said: "Naturally we are delighted with the strong endorsement from farmers, however the challenges the sector faces are as great as ever.
“Feedback from farmers who attended the 53 referendum meetings around the country was that they want and need a farmer organisation now as much as ever.
“Consequently we need to work just as hard for the next six years, but we will do so with the knowledge farmers firmly support and value their farmer organisation. In essence Beef + Lamb New Zealand is just an extension of farmers.”
The results represented 58 per cent of sheep numbers, 47 per cent of cattle and 15 per cent of dairy cattle numbers.
