This puts the world index at the highest level since July last year, thanks largely to a major increase in Cheddar.

A 10.8 per cent lift was reported for Cheddar as Butter Milk Powder closed up 6.8 per cent and Skim Milk Powder and Butter also finished higher.

Anhydrous Milk fat was the big loser on the day, falling 2.2 per cent.

Slipping slightly were Whole Milk Powder, down 1 per cent, and Rennet Casein, down 0.7 per cent.
