Namibia's First Foot and Mouth Case For Six Years

NAMIBIA - More cattle have tested positive of foot and mouth disease, this time in Namibia, the first cases in the country for six years.

Seven cases have been confirmed, thought to be cause by contact with wild animal species, reports the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). 

The outbreak is in the far north east of the Kavango region, close to Angola to the north and infected Botswana, where steps are in place to control the outbreak. 

Officials in Windhoek have not reported FMD since 20 January 2009.
