New Outbreak of FMD in Tibetan Cattle

CHINA - A new outbreak of Foot and Mouth Diseases (FMD) has been reported in cattle, the first in Tibet for almost a year.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No.11 dated 25 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

It outlines an outbreak of FMD, which started on 15 December in Qushui village in the region of Lasa. Seventeen animals in the backyard cattle herd of 86 showed signs of the disease. All have been destroyed.

The usual control measures have been applied: stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning, disinfection of infected premises and dipping/spraying. There is no vaccination nor treatment of affected animals.

The last FMD outbreak in China was in Tibet in January 2014.
