Amul Setting up New 720,000 tonne Feed Plant in Gujarat
INDIA - In order to cater to cattle feed for farmers in the country, India’s largest milk cooperative, Amul is setting up 720,000 tonne cattle feed plant in Kapadivav village, Kheda district in Gujarat state.

"The plant spread across 19 acres will be fully automatic first of its kind in the country that will be catering to demands of cattle feed from neighbouring states, apart from exporting to foreign countries," Dr Rajendra H Umale of Amul Nutrition, part of Amul Dairy told 5m Publishing at annual Kisan (farmers) event in Pune.
"The plant is being set up with an investment of $30 million and will start operation by October 2015," Dr Umale adds.
Machineries for the new plant have been imported from Germany.
Speaking about the plant operations, Dr Umale said: "In order to provide our farmers with good quality of feed, we are setting up the plant that will source raw materials all across the country.
"The new plant can be expanded if the need arises; however, we are in the process of appointing more distributors as currently, Amul Nutrition has only 50 to 60 in the state."
Speaking on the cattle feed market, he said that as of today country’s cattle feed producer are catering only 10 per cent of the market. There is huge opportunities as 90 per cent of the market are still needs to be captured.
Currently, farmers are not aware of the benefits of cattle feed and they are still following traditional method of cattle feed, like grazing this cattle’s, others.
To cater to its own demand, Amul already have 1000 tonnes capacity of cattle feed plant that is looking after 1200 milk cooperatives in the state.
We are the only one in the country to launch substitute for calf milk, instead of feeding calf with milk, farmers can use of products that have full ingredients.
