The aim of the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) programme is to encourage fundamental research that looks to understand and promote the welfare of managed animals in the UK, including farmed, laboratory and companion animals.

The BBSRC is looking for responsive mode applications for the scheme.

Research under this priority should aim to increase our knowledge of basic animal welfare and the implications of human involvement, as well as the alleviation of disease, pain and mental disorders in managed animals.

Researchers, whose sole focus of research may not be welfare are also encouraged to look for opportunities within their proposed programmes of research to improve the welfare of managed animals.

The closing date for responsive mode applications focusing on the welfare of managed animals is 8 January 2015.
