High level discussion among world veterinary specialists has been instigated this week at the Faculty of Veterinary Science Austral University of Chile.

The conference, titled on its main themes of genetics, surveillance and control programmes, was intended to guide discussion on national and international mechanisms for controlling TB.

More funding has been secured within the government's agricultural departments for 2015 to achieve animal health targets.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agriculture and Livestock Service saw funding rises of 6.2 and 10 per cent respectively.

Managing the disease is not only the responsibility of the state but should involve private sector partnerships, said Agriculture Secretary Claudio Ternicier.

He added: "We want to strengthen the control and the health status of Chile's progress with regards to bovine tuberculosis.

"We are very happy because the 2015 budget reflects the priorities of our ministry and points to resolve outstanding issues in health care."
