Italian Dairy Group Praises Time Magazine Article For Backing Butter

ITALY – An article in Time magazine championing butter as part of a healthy diet has been welcomed by the Italian Dairy Association (Assolatte).

The Association paraphrased the article's message and its reassessment of Butter,  as a ‘precious ingredient of world cuisine’ that has had to endure ‘several campaigns of demonization’.

Playing down its effects on obesity and heart disease, the article spawned the front cover slogan ‘eat butter’.

The Time article instead blamed the craze for ‘fat-free’ and ‘low-fat’ food for playing on a consumer fear of fat.

Removing fat from recipes means other ingredients are included, increasing caloric content, the article said.
