IBR Infection In SPACE Cattle Exhibitors
FRANCE - An animal exhibiting at SPACE, the French agricultural show has been identified positive with infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR).

Even though the risk is minimal, event organisers have said that all cattle exhibiting will be placed in quarantine, for precautionary measures, reports Elevage-net.
Cattle steward, Jean-Yves Rissel said that the case of IBR was detected in milk collected from the infected cow. The herd was last tested on 5th September, however the results did not come back positive until 15th September.
Regulations require all cows exhibited at SPACE to be tested before the event. Blood tests carried out on 23rd August, returned negative for the infected cow.
"When the result came back on 15th September, we immediately isolated the animal in question, in order to carry out further blood tests," Mr Rissel said.
"The results came back negative, however the problem we have is that the incubation period for IBR is 21 days. Because of this we have informed all other exhibitors of the case and implemented a protocol for them to apply.
"This means that 600 cattle, representing 450 farms, which were present at Space must be put into quarantine upon the return to their farm of origin.
After 15-30 days a blood test will be carried out to monitor the presence or absence of the virus.
