Hong Kong Reports New Outbreak of FMD

HONG KONG - The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) reports that a new outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) has occured in the country.

The country's veterinary aithorities sent an immediate notification to the OIE on Tuesday, 18 May.

A total of one outbreak has been reported at a farm in which swine were affected. According to the report, the outbreak was first observed on 5 May 2010, and confirmed on 10 May.

The report states that a total of 1240 cases were found, and 2132 animals showed signs of susceptibility to the disease.
