Indonesian Insemination Programme Ups Numbers

INDONESIA - As part of an insemination program, the Bali Husbandry Agency has prepared 90,000 doses of cow's sperm in the hopes of producing 85,000 cows, or 10 percent more than yielded in last year's programme.

"It also aims to keep up the spirits of the farmers in Bali. Because the increasing number of Bali-bred cow means there is no reason to import cows from outside Bali," Agency head IB Ketut Alit said after meeting a group of investors from India who are interested in cow seeding.

According to JakartaPost, he asked the farmers to abandon the traditional insemination method, saying that artificial insemination, which only cost Rp 6,000 per dosage, is a better way to produce high quality Bali-breed cows.
