Disease Spreads in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - Bird flu and foot-and-mouth diseases have hit some localities, according to the Veterinary Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The Veterinary Department has confirmed an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in northern Hoa Binh province. Livestock, including 2 cows and 24 buffaloes in Cun Pheo commune, Mai Chau district, tested positive for the virus.

As of February 5, the country has had four provinces infected with foot-and-mouth disease: Long An (less than 19 days), Kon Tum, Son La and Hoa Binh (all less than 21 days).

Effective measures are being taken to curb the spread of the disease in these provinces.
