Print This Page IFA Hails Sarkozy Intervention Against Mandelson
IRELAND - IFA Deputy President Derek Deane said July 21st in Geneva was D-day for Irish farming and the food industry. He said there is no doubt Peter Mandelson is determined to sell-out Irish farming to secure a trade deal at any price.
French President Sarkozy’s intervention this week is both timely and helpful, and only determined opposition in Europe will prevent Mandelson handing over our food market to South American ranchers and traders.
The IFA Deputy President said there would be consequences for Ireland with beef at €2/Kg, milk at 24c/lt, the sheep industry decimated by imports from Australia and New Zealand and damaging losses in pigs, poultry and grain.
Mr Deane said the IFA will be meeting relevant Government ministers and officials in advance of the Ministerial meeting in Geneva.
