Print This Page U.S. Envoy Rejects Renegotiation of Beef Imports
SOUTH KOREA - U.S. Ambassador to Korea Alexander Vershbow on Tuesday rejected calls to renegotiate a deal to reopen the Korean market to American beef amid huge daily protests against the deal here. “We have said many times we don't see any need for re-negotiation of the agreement since it is based on science,” the envoy said.Vershbow said the April beef deal was "based on international science, and there is no scientific justification to postpone implementation."
Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan had called in Vershbow to ask for U.S. cooperation in restricting imports of U.S. beef from cattle aged 30 months or older.
