Print This Page Bullock Prices At An All-Time High
INDIA - In the most suicide-prone Yavatmal district of Vidarbha, the price of a pair of bullocks has crossed Rs 1.65 lakh. "It's the highest ever price. So far, the prices ranged between Rs 50,000 and Rs 70,000.Apparently, because of an acute shortage of cattle, there is sudden hike in the prices," a senior official told TOI on Saturday.
Currently, a four-day ‘bail bazar' is on in Yavatmal's Wani tehsil. During the period, bullock traders from across the country sell their cattle in the bazar.
"By and large, after Holi, the farmers change their cattle," the official said. This is the first time that bullock traders from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have come to the Wani bazar.
Farmers' leader Kishore Tiwari said it was unprecedented in the history of the annual bail bazar that cattle are being sold at such high prices.
