Low fat and protein levels summer

For a few years now I see a sudden dip in protein and fat level in de milk after April. Somewhere in August it increases again. These changes happen without changing the ration.
Calving happens throughout the season without influence on milk composition.
Can anybody tell me what can be the reason of this change?

fat and protein level

Hi Gino

fat and protein levels in the milk will change when the growth habits of the pasture alters at different times of the year. I am a herd manager on a large dairy in Australia so I am not familiar with your growing seasons. The fat content of the milk is dependent mainly on the amount of fibre in the diet. When the pasture is very soft for example if the weather is cold and the pasture rotation too short to get the grass to more than 1.75 leaf stage, the fat level will drop - so adding in a bit of hay will improve it.

Protein is a bit trickier to change. It may be that you need to add a bit more protein to the cows ration at this time of the year, for example some lupin or canola meal.

hope this helps

Hi,
The neutritions in milk product must be varied in the time you told. You should increase the milk neutritions through the product available in market.Try to find good product suitable to your conditions.

Hi there,

Yes you should give some varied nutrition to your customer as per their requirement and for this you have to mix some extra ingredients from markets.

REGARDS.

It's always got to do with feed intake, no matter what. The level of energy (which determines level of fat content in the milk) and protein (which influences protein content in the milk) in the feed and grasses is what will influence the fat and protein content in the milk. Higher the fibre in the feed, the lower the quality of milk.

Problem is, we have no idea where you are located so are ability to help you is very limited. :)
