treating a large pressure sore
What is the best way to treat a pressure sore on a dairy cow? We just bought two very sorry looking cows tonight, one of which has a large sore over her right hip bone. It is from knocking her hip on the divider (at her previous "home") every time she would get up and lay down. Is it best to use an ointment on it or spray it with something like redkote?
They asked WHAT they should treat it with, not Whether They Should Treat It Or Not!!
To the OP:An ointment of some sort for skin may be alright, and of course I'm sure you'll give her plenty of bedding and room so that she doesn't get these sores again. A vet would probably your best bet for this kind of advice.
By now I would think the wounds would be healed up, since you did ask this in January and this is already August.
Prompt medical attention can prevent surface pressure sores from deepening into more serious infections.
