FMD disinfection points to be discontinued

IRELAND - Disinfection points at Irish ports and airports, introduced in the immediate aftermath of last month's outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain, are being discontinued with effect from tomorrow

The Minister for Agriculture & Food, Mary Coughlan said that the lifting of the Surveillance Zone in Britain and the ending of disinfection was a further indication of a return to normality.

The Minister said that the additional veterinary certification requirements for animals and their products being exported from the UK would remain in place probably for another few days.
