AUSTRALIA - The Australian government wants to change domestic food safety regulations covering the highly unlikely event that a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, is discovered locally, Agriculture Minister Peter McGauran said Monday. Under current regulations put in place in 2001, all beef must be removed from domestic retail outlets if BSE-infected beef is discovered in Australia. The beef industry's major producer and processor lobbies want this changed, saying the rules would decimate the local beef industry.To continue reading this article please click here
