Cattle Shortage Forces Out Tyson Plant
US – Over fifty years of beef processing will permanently end at Tyson Fresh Meat’s Denison plant in Iowa due to a “lack of available cattle”.

The plant’s by-product rendering operations will continue, employing around 20 people, but 400 jobs will be axed, Tyson Foods announced last week.
The “very difficult decision” was taken to align overall production capacity with current cattle supplies, said Steve Stouffer, president of Tyson Fresh Meats.
He said Tyson believes the move puts other Tyson plants in a better position.
“The realities of the beef business have changed and we must continue to change with it to remain successful,” added Mr Stouffer.
“The cattle supply is tight and there’s an excess of beef production capacity in the region.”
